Residents of Jharkhand are facing a significant blow as electricity rates surge following the state government's decision to hike tariffs. The Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) had initially proposed a staggering increase of 39.71%; however, after review, the commission approved a more modest raise of 7.66%, effective from March 1.
Under the new tariff structure, consumers across various categories will experience heightened electricity costs. Domestic users, both rural and urban, will witness an increase in per-unit charges, along with raised fixed charges. Additionally, commercial and agricultural sectors will also see elevated rates, with agricultural meter charges also being raised. To mitigate the impact, consumers are offered incentives such as a 2% discount for bill payments within five days and a 1% relief for online payments, up to a maximum of Rs 250.
